Un vasetto di lucciole. Lavoretti per l’estate: un semplice progetto che può essere preparato anche coi bambini più piccoli, economico e veloce, e che si trasforma in un intrattenimento rilassante e un po’ magico, proprio come le lucciole.
Durante la preparazione si può parlare di densità dei liquidi (il colore fluorescente, che è a base d’acqua, è più pesante dell’olio e tende ad andare verso il basso) e di solubilità, miscugli e miscele.
Coi bambini più piccoli mettere il colore a gocce nel vasetto è un esercizio di concentrazione e pazienza, e si può anche giocare a contarle, stabilendo un numero in anticipo: imparare a fermarsi arrivati al numero giusto è un esercizio importantissimo che, tra moltissimi altri, getta le basi per l’apprendimento dei concetti matematici negli anni successivi.
Ai bambini piace molto sapere come sono fatte le cose, e quando vedranno la bocce di neve “comprate” non avranno dubbi sul loro funzionamento… in effetti è lo stesso principio.
Questo genere di legami tra esperienza manuale e oggetti della realtà, meglio ancora se si determinano in modo casuale e spontaneo, aumentano l’autostima e sono quei piccoli gesti che, esperienza dopo esperienza, stimolano la passione per lo studio e l’apprendimento, a partire da quando si è molto piccoli…
Materiale occorrente:
– un vasetto di vetro con coperchio
– bianco di vaselina (è molto economico e si trova nei negozi di hobbistica, reparto imbottigliamento vini), in alternativa si può usare anche olio di semi
– colore fluorescente giallo o verde (si può anche preparare riciclando vecchi evidenziatori, come ho fatto qui)
– acquarello azzurro diluito in acqua tonica (se si vuole esaltare l’effetto fluorescente sotto luce nera, ma non è affatto indispensabile), altrimenti nel latte
– un pennellino
– brillantini argento
– eventualmente colla a caldo per sigillare il coperchio.
Come di fa:
il bambino travasa il bianco di vaselina (o l’olio di semi) nel barattolo, fermandosi a circa un dito dall’orlo:
Col pennellino mette nel vasetto una goccia di colore alla volta:
quindi aggiunge dei brillantini argentati (senza esagerare):
Bisogna poi aggiungere con un cucchiaino altro bianco di vasellina (o olio), un cucchiaino alla volta, fino ad arrivare all’orlo del vasetto, quindi avvitare bene il coperchio ed eventualmente sigillare con la colla a caldo.
Il tappo può essere decorato con un cerchio di stoffa o pannolenci e un bel nastro:

What do you need?
– A glass jar with lid – White Vaseline (is very cheap and is found in hobby shops, bottling department), alternatively you can also use vegetable oil – Fluorescent yellow or green color (you can also prepare recycling old markers, as I did here) – Watercolor blue diluted in tonic water (if you want to enhance the fluorescent effect under black light, but is not essential), otherwise in milk – A brush – Silver glitter – Possibly hot glue to seal the lid.

What to do?
The child pours the white Vaseline (or seed oil) into the jar, stopping at about a finger from the brink:
With brush sets in the jar a drop of color at a time:
then adds silver glitter (no exaggeration):
We must also add with a teaspoon more white vaseline (or oil), a teaspoon at a time, until you get to the edge of the jar, then screw the lid and possibly seal it with hot glue.
The cap can be decorated with a circle of cloth or felt and a pretty ribbon:
Le meduse in vaso. Lavoretti per l’estate: un bel lavoretto estivo per bambini in età di scuola primaria che può essere declinato in tantissimi modi ed essere una decorazione per la cameretta, un modo per conservare le conchiglie raccolte sulla spiaggia, ed anche un gioco… Le meduse sono chemiluminescenti in natura, quindi si possono anche preparare vasi per esperimenti di luce.
Realizzare le meduse di pet è semplicissimo e dà grande soddisfazione; è sicuramente uno dei lavoretti per l’estate più semplice e versatile; trovi il tutorial qui: “Meduse di pet”.
Nota: a seconda della grandezza del vaso scelto, la medusa può comportarsi in modi diversi. Se il vaso è piccolo può succedere che affondi o che si posizioni sempre “a testa in giù”. Se vi succede, inserite un palloncino nella testa e il problema è risolto. Se il vaso è molto alto, può succedere che la medusa galleggi invece troppo: basterà zavorrarla legandola a un sasso. Se dopo qualche settimana la medusa zavorrata dovesse affondare, ricorrete all’aggiunta del palloncino…
Medusa galleggiante per giocare
Il progetto più semplice è un vaso da gioco, che impegnerà il bambino a scuoterlo per vedere la sua medusa e gli altri elementi muoversi al suo interno.
Materiale occorrente:
– una medusa (controllare che sia abbastanza piccola da potersi muovere nel vaso anche posto in orizzontale)
– un vaso con coperchio
– acqua, brillantini e decorazioni a piacere
– un piccolo palloncino (tipo “bomba d’acqua) o un guanto di lattice monouso
– eventualmente colla a caldo per sigillare il coperchio.
Cosa fare:
gonfiate il palloncino e infilatelo nella testa della medusa:
mettete nel vaso gli elementi scelti e i brillantini. Quindi riempite di acqua fino all’orlo e appoggiate la medusa:
Chiudete bene col tappo (se volete sigillandolo con la colla a caldo) ed il vostro vaso è pronto.
Vaso decorativo di meduse e conchiglie
Questo progetto è “solo da guardare”. Fatto in famiglia può essere un bel modo per collezionare insieme alla medusa conchiglie e altri ricordini trovati in spiaggia.
Proposto come attività, ad esempio nel corso dei “Centri estivi” è anche un’idea economica e semplice per valorizzare le meduse e portarle a casa in una confezione scenografica e di grande effetto.
Cosa serve:
– due meduse
– acqua
– brillantini (se volete)
– due sassi più grandi e sassolini piccoli
– conchigliette
– filo trasparente
– un grande vaso di vetro con coperchio è la scelta più “elegante”, ma si può optare invece per quella più economica, soprattutto a scuola, utilizzando una bottiglia da bibite da 2l (e rinunciando al coperchio o ingegnandosi a costruirne uno, naturalmente)
Come si fa:
Tagliate il collo della bottiglia da due litri per ottenere il vaso che vi serve (altrimenti procuratevi un grande vaso di vetro):
Ora bisogna zavorrare le meduse; vi basterà legare il filo trasparente al sasso
e con l’ago infilare l’altro capo del filo e passarlo nella testa della medusa. Prendete la misura per ogni medusa usando come riferimento il vostro vaso, e possibilmente fate in modo che le due meduse possano trovarsi ad altezze diverse:
Mettete le due meduse zavorrate nel vaso (o nella bottiglia):
Aggiungete conchiglie e sassolini per creare un bel fondale e nascondere i sassi, e versate l’acqua ( se volete aggiungete i brillantini):
Il vostro vaso di meduse (bellissimo, ma molto difficile da fotografare, almeno per me), è pronto:

Il modo più semplice di realizzare meduse fluorescenti, è quello di versare nella testa acqua colorata con colore fluorescente e mettere a ghiacciare:
Coi bambini più grandi, se pensate di utilizzare anche la “luce nera”, potete anche ghiacciare in una medusa il colore fluorescente (meglio il giallo) e nell’altra dell’acqua tonica.
Il vaso sarà molto bello anche alla luce naturale; man mano il ghiaccio si scioglierà colorando l’acqua…
Vaso di meduse fluorescenti sotto lampada a “luce nera”
Possiamo sbizzarrirci con tutti gli elementi che sappiamo diventare fluorescenti se illuminati con la lampadina BLB… Ad esempio possiamo riempire un ovetto di plastica con acqua tonica:
oppure con colla a caldo:
E, rimanendo in tema di vasi e meduse, la medusa di pet può funzionare anche come “diavoletto di Cartesio”…

Bottigliette magiche fluorescenti. Queste bottigliette sono il prodotto finale di vari esperimenti che abbiamo fatto in una stanza illuminata con una lampada di Wood (o a “luce nera”),
miscelando vari liquidi e altri materiali tra loro per verificarne la fluorescenza.

Abbiamo verificato che il colore fluorescente (ricavato dai pennarelli evidenziatori) diluito con acqua demineralizzata è molto fluorescente sotto la luce BLB (più di quando è concentrato):
e che l’acqua tonica diventa davvero fluorescente (bottiglia nuova, senza nessuna aggiunta); l’effetto è dato dalla presenza in questa bibita di chinino, e ci siamo divertiti a travasarla in vari contenitori trasparenti, per vedere le scie di liquido luminoso scorrere al loro interno:
abbiamo provato ad aggiungere colore ad acquarello (qui blu):
e anche colore fluorescente e bianco di vaselina (l’acqua tonica si miscela al colore fluorescente, mentre il bianco di vaselina galleggia e non è fluorescente):
abbiamo utilizzato poi i vari liquidi ottenuti per travasarli in contenitori più piccoli, realizzando le nostre bottigliette magiche aggiungendo materiali decorativi e sonori. Per chiudere le bottigliette di succo di frutta abbiamo usato tappi di plastica sigillati con la colla a caldo (e così ci siamo accorti che la nostra colla è fluorescente!) e abbiamo decorato i tappi con ritagli di pannolenci e nastrini…
Ecco alcune delle nostre realizzazioni… fotografate con luce naturale e poi con “luce nera”.
Vasetto con colore fluorescente e acqua demineralizzata:
Bottiglietta di plastica con bianco di vaselina, pezzetti di colla a caldo, stelline, perline e glitter argento (i pezzetti di colla a caldo brillano tantissimo e riescono ad illuminare anche il bianco di vaselina, altrimenti non fluorescente):
acqua tonica, bianco di vaselina, e brillantini colorati (i brillantini, scuotendo la bottiglia, tendono a stare nella vaselina e piano piano scendono verso l’acqua tonica. Siccome acqua tonica e vaselina non si miscelano, muovendo la bottiglia in orizzontale si crea un effetto di onde su “cielo stellato”). Inoltre sotto la luce nera si illumina soltanto l’acqua tonica:
Acqua demineralizzata, brillantini argento, pezzetti di colla a caldo (e colla a caldo sulle pareti esterne del vaso):

Come vedete, anche se l’effetto dal vivo è decisamente più bello, la lampadina BLB crea un’atmosfera davvero irreale, ma non mi sento di consigliarne l’utilizzo coi bambini più piccoli, anche rispettando tutte le procedure di sicurezza…

and we enjoyed to pour it in different transparent containers, to see the wakes of bright liquid coursing within them:
We tried adding colored watercolor and also fluorescent color and white Vaseline (the tonic water is mixed with the fluorescent color, while the white Vaseline floats and does not fluoresce) :
we then used the various liquids obtained to pour them into smaller containers, making our magical bottles adding decorative and sound materials.
To close the bottles of juice we used plastic caps sealed with hot glue (and so we realized that our glue is fluorescent!) and we decorated the caps with scraps of felt and ribbons …
